How To Have An Absolutely Fabulous Style Holiday

In Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, Edina and Patsy head off on a glam getaway filled with speedboats, sports cars and – what else? – champers. Here’s how you can grab a slice of the glamour and holiday like Eddie and Pats…

Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie is the most star-studded film of the summer. Bringing back classic women-behaving-badly duo Edina Monsoon (Jennifer Saunders) and Patsy Stone (Joanna Lumley), the film follows their glamorous capers on the French Riviera, with the likes of Kate Moss, Rebel Wilson, Cara Delevingne, Harry Styles and more all putting in an appearance.

Where is Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie filmed?

The film’s plot sees Edina and Patsy go on the run in celeb fave the French Riviera, after finding themselves at the centre of a media storm over a calamitous encounter with Kate Moss. It was shot in the south of France on a breezy seven-week schedule.

But while the French Riviera might be the classic go-to for superyachts, chic boutiques and beaches full of beautiful people, there are lots more holiday hotspots in Europe offering the same A-list experience, and with more bang for your buck. Here are our top five alternatives.

1. Budva Riviera – Montenegro

Montenegro is fast becoming the new favourite playground of the super-rich, out-classing French Riviera fave St Tropez with its pristine, placid bays, dramatic mountain peaks and unspoiled old towns. The Budva Riviera offers all the sandy stretches and sapphire seas of its French rival, while Budva town’s marina gives Monaco a run for its money in the superyacht stakes. And dreamy Kotor – with its fjord-like bay and tangle of old alleys – is only a daytrip away, and is considered by many to be the most photogenic spot in all of Europe. Find out how to holiday like a superyacht owner – and with all the benefits of All Inclusive.

2. Neapolitan Riviera – Sorrento

The French Riviera is much-loved for its craggy cliffs, sweeping beaches and glassy seas – but all this and more can be found on southern Italy’s very own Neapolitan Riviera. Sophisticated Sorrento offers streets packed with designer boutiques and picturesque cliff-sides tumbling down into the Bay of Naples, and is the gateway to the glam Amalfi Coast. But for the ultimate in A-list experiences, you have to head out on a day trip to Capri, an island of see-and-be-seen piazzas and VIP-stuffed cafes.

3. Crete – Chania

Cannes might be renowned as the ultimate in harbour-side glamour, but the Venetian harbour in Chania, on the Greek island of Crete, is an equally beautiful little corner of the world, with lively nightlife, buzzy restaurants and boutique bars to boot. Blue Flag beaches and secluded coves abound, too. Here’s more on things to do in Chania with First Choice.

4. Majorca – Pollensa

Forget the sleb-filled beaches of southern France – in Majorca’s chichi north, where popular BBC TV series The Night Manager was recently filmed, the place on every megastar’s lips is Puerto Pollensa. With bright-white beaches backed by soaring mountains, gourmet restaurants and a chic marina stuffed with bobbing yachts, it’s easy to see why the likes of Jack Nicholson and Michael Douglas have been spotted holidaying here. (How long ‘til Hiddleswift are snapped snogging in Pollensa?) And thanks to First Choice’s range of all-inclusive resorts, you too can holiday like a Hollywood star, even if you don’t quite have the pay packet. Find out more on __holidays to Puerto Pollensa.

5. Balearic Islands – Ibiza

Nice is the classic cultural pick of the French Riviera, with its pretty old towns and fab food scene. But Balearic island Ibiza offers both of these things, you can wander the ancient ramparts in Ibiza Town, then fill up on plentiful fresh seafood tapas. It’s also the world’s best place to go clubbing. So forget watching Kate Moss in the Absolutely Fabulous movie – you could actually spot Mossy sipping sun-downers on Ibiza’s oh-so-chic beaches.

Best of all, partying with the rich and famous doesn’t have to be a wallop to the wallet – see how you can do Ibiza All Inclusive with First Choice.
